(UET Lahore) The University of Engineering and Technology was started in 1921 as Maclagan Engineering College, in Lahore. That makes it older than Pakistan. For over a century it has produced the engineers behind the country’s dams, highways, power grids, and more recently its software export industry.
The university is run by the Government of Punjab so the Government of Punjab helps to keep the fees low. The HEC Pakistan thinks that this university is one of the best for engineering which’s why they put it in the W Category. This is the group for engineering universities. The Pakistan Engineering Council, which is also known as the PEC has given its approval to the university. The university is really good at teaching engineering, that is why the HEC Pakistan and the Pakistan Engineering Council have such an opinion of it. The Pakistan Engineering Council helps to make sure that the university is teaching engineering in this way. . Both matter a lot for graduates seeking work or further study abroad.
The main campus is on Grand Trunk Road in Lahore: labs, library, hostels, sports grounds, medical centre, all within walking distance of each other. The University Of Agriculture has four campuses in Faisalabad, Narowal, Kala Shah Kaku and Rachna for students from all over Punjab. The University Of Agriculture has a big student body, with more than 25,000 students studying at The University Of Agriculture. These students are doing programs at The University Of Agriculture like undergraduate programs, postgraduate programs and PhD programs, at The University Of Agriculture.
How Admissions Work in 2025
The process runs on a fixed annual cycle and it is not complicated once you understand the sequence. Most students who miss out do so for one of two reasons: they miscalculate their aggregate before applying, or they miss the fee payment deadline after a merit list is released.
Who can apply
- FSc Pre-Engineering (or Pre-Medical for Chemical Engineering) with at least 60% marks
- Must have appeared in or cleared the ECAT entry test
- Pakistani national, or valid documentation if applying as a foreign student
- Age 22 or under at the time of admission — FATA, AJK, and certain reserved categories have exceptions
- No record of expulsion from any institution on disciplinary grounds
Bonus Tips from Learnistiq.com:
- Always keep your dream department on top in the preference list.
- Prepare documents in advance to avoid last-minute issues.
- Check the official admission portal daily during merit season.

The timeline each year
UET announces the ECAT schedule in June or early July. The test is held in August. Once ECAT results are out, the admissions portal at admission.uet.edu.pk opens and candidates submit department preferences. Merit lists come out in September — typically three rounds — with a fee payment window between each one.
How your aggregate is calculated
This formula has stayed consistent for years. Because ECAT carries half the weight, a very strong ECAT score can offset a moderate FSc result — and the reverse is also true.
| Component | Weight | Notes |
| Matriculation | 10% | Science subjects only |
| FSc / Intermediate | 40% | Pre-Engineering preferred for most programs |
| ECAT Score | 50% | Biggest single factor in your admission |
ECAT — Everything You Need to Know
ECAT (Engineering College Admission Test) is UET Lahore’s own entry test. Tens of thousands of students sit it every year, and your score here largely decides which department you end up in — or whether you get in at all.
Test format
| Subject | Questions | Marks |
| Mathematics | 30 | 30 |
| Physics | 30 | 30 |
| Chemistry | 20 | 20 |
| English | 20 | 20 |
| Total | 100 | 100 |
All multiple choices. No negative marking. A blank and a wrong answer both cost you nothing — so guess if you have to. The top ECAT score in 2025 was recorded around 360–370 out of 400 according to data published after result declaration.
How to prepare
Math and Physics together are 60% of the paper. That is where preparation time should go — at least 60% of it. Coordinate geometry, trigonometry, and mechanics come up almost every year based on past paper patterns. Past ECAT papers are available on UET’s official website and working through five years of them is probably the single most useful thing you can do.
Chemistry just needs one solid revision of FSc Part 1 and Part 2. English is even more manageable — grammar rules, vocabulary, and sentence correction cover most of what appears. Neither subject rewards weeks of extra preparation the way Math and Physics do.
Programs and Departments
UET Lahore offers BS, MS, and PhD programs across engineering, computing, architecture, and applied sciences. Here are all undergraduate departments on the main Lahore campus:
| Department | Degree | Duration | PEC Accredited |
| Civil Engineering | BS Civil Engineering | 4 years | Yes |
| Electrical Engineering | BS Electrical Engineering | 4 years | Yes |
| Mechanical Engineering | BS Mechanical Engineering | 4 years | Yes |
| Computer Science | BS Computer Science | 4 years | Yes |
| Software Engineering | BS Software Engineering | 4 years | Yes |
| Chemical Engineering | BS Chemical Engineering | 4 years | Yes |
| Environmental Engineering | BS Environmental Engineering | 4 years | In Progress |
| Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering | BS Industrial Engineering | 4 years | Yes |
| Mining Engineering | BS Mining Engineering | 4 years | Yes |
| Metallurgical & Materials Engineering | BS Metallurgical Engineering | 4 years | Yes |
| Architecture | B.Arch | 5 years | PCATP Accredited |
| Urban and Regional Planning | BS Urban Planning | 4 years | Specialised |
MS and PhD programs
MS is available across all major departments. You need a minimum 2.5 CGPA in your undergraduate degree, and admission is based on NTS GAT-General plus a departmental interview. PhD programs require an MS or equivalent and typically run three to five years — they are research-heavy.
Choosing a program
CS and Software Engineering attract the most applicants and feed directly into Pakistan’s tech sector — the job market for fresh graduates here is active right now. Electrical Engineering suits students interested in power systems, telecom, or postgrad study abroad. Civil Engineering has a lot of opportunities for people who want to work in the sector in Pakistan because the government is spending a lot of money on new roads and buildings. This is a deal for Civil Engineering. Mechanical Engineering is also useful because it can lead to jobs in manufacturing, cars and energy.
If you are not sure what to choose between Computer Science and Software Engineering: Computer Science is about the basics of how computers work. It includes things like algorithms, Artificial Intelligence and systems. Computer Science covers a lot of things. Software Engineering is more focused on practical development. Both lead to similar first jobs. CS gives you more options if you want research or an MS later.
Fee Structure 2026
UET Lahore runs a three-tier fee system. Where you land depends entirely on which category you’re admitted under — subsidized (open merit), partially subsidized, or non-subsidized (self-finance). The difference between the first and the last is not small.
Subsidized / Open Merit seats are for students who qualified on aggregate. The government covers the bulk of your tuition. Based on the 2025 fee schedule (applicable through Spring 2027), a merit student pays roughly PKR 72,000 per semester from the second semester onward, with the first semester slightly higher at around PKR 106,000 due to one-time admission charges. Total four-year cost on a subsidized seat lands around PKR 6.6 lakh — that covers all eight semesters.
Self-finance / Non-subsidized seats are a different story. The first semester runs around PKR 153,000, and each subsequent semester is roughly PKR 113,000. Total over four years: approximately PKR 10.1 lakh.
| Category | 1st Semester | 2nd–8th Semester | 4-Year Total |
| Subsidized (Open Merit) | ~PKR 106,000 | ~PKR 72,000 | ~PKR 6.6 lakh |
| Self-Finance (Non-Subsidized) | ~PKR 153,000 | ~PKR 113,000 | ~PKR 10.1 lakh |
Tuition alone is not the full picture. A student living on campus should realistically budget for hostel room rent (PKR 4,000–10,000/month depending on room type), dining (around PKR 6,000–9,000/month), and books plus incidentals. All-in, the annual cost of studying at UET Lahore on a government seat runs between PKR 2.5 lakh and PKR 3.5 lakh per year once accommodation and living expenses are factored in.
One thing worth knowing: UET automatically withholds 5% advance income tax in the spring semester on fee amounts exceeding PKR 200,000 annually — but only from non-filers. If a parent or guardian is on the Active Taxpayers List, submit proof to the Dues Section before the spring challan deadline and this deduction is waived.
Scholarships at UET Lahore
Most UET students who needed financial support and didn’t get it didn’t fail to qualify — they missed the deadline. That’s the single most important thing to understand before reading anything else here.
Four major scholarship programs are genuinely accessible to UET undergrads. Each works differently, and knowing which one fits your situation is worth more than knowing they exist.
HEC Need-Based Scholarship
This is the most substantial option available. The Higher Education Commission funds it directly, and it can cover 100% of your tuition plus a monthly stipend of around PKR 6,000. To qualify, you need to be a Pakistani national enrolled in a public university on a merit seat, from a family that genuinely cannot afford university costs. Admissions already on other major scholarships are not eligible — you can’t stack this with PEEF, for example. Applications are submitted through your university’s financial aid office, not directly to HEC. The window opens early in the semester and closes fast. For the 2025 session, many universities closed HEC scholarship applications within the first two weeks of classes.
PEEF — Punjab Educational Endowment Fund
PEEF is Punjab-specific and has been running since 2008. Over 490,000 students have received it to date. The income ceiling is PKR 60,000 per month from all household sources combined — if your family earns more than that, you won’t qualify. Children of government employees in BPS grades 1–4 are exempt from the income condition if salary is the only income source.
The scholarship covers full tuition and pays a biannual stipend — the amount varies by institution and level but has ranged from PKR 3,000 to PKR 9,680 monthly for undergraduate students. You must have scored at least 60% in your last annual exam to be eligible. Applications go through your university, not directly to PEEF. Visit student.peef.org.pk for the current cycle.
CM Punjab Honhaar Scholarship
This is the newest and currently most active scholarship being offered at UET. The Chief Minister’s Honhaar Undergraduate Scholarship Program — announced directly on the UET official website for the 2025 session with a September 15 deadline — offers full tuition coverage for the entire degree duration (4 to 5 years) with no repayment. Selection gives 30% weight to Matric marks and 70% to Intermediate results. It targets high-achievers from modest backgrounds, with Punjab domicile required. Applications are online only at honhaarscholarship.punjabhec.gov.pk — no hard copy needed. In 2026, the program was expanded to over 40,000 slots, up from 30,000.
UET Internal Merit Scholarship
Once you’re enrolled, UET itself provides a partial tuition waiver to students who finish in the top 10% of their department by CGPA each semester. This one has nothing to do with family income — it’s purely academic. The waiver percentage varies but is confirmed each semester based on the results. Maintain your standing, and it renews automatically.

The documents you need to collect before arriving
For any need-based scholarship — HEC, PEEF, or Honhaar — you will need: a family income certificate issued by a government revenue officer, copies of all household members’ CNICs, your most recent paid utility bills (gas and electricity), your last semester result card, your paid fee voucher, and admission documents. None of this takes long to collect if you plan ahead. It takes weeks if you start after classes begin and government offices get involved.
One more thing: receiving a scholarship from one program often disqualifies you from applying to another in the same semester. Know which one is right for your situation before you apply — applying to the wrong one and getting selected can cost you access to a better option.
UET Lahore Closing Merits 2025-2026:
Closing aggregate (closing merit) refers to the score of the last student admitted in a department on a particular merit list. It is the best indicator of your chances for UET Lahore and its campuses (KSK, Faisalabad, Narowal, etc.) in the upcoming 2026 cycle.
Note: The figures below are based on actual 2025 closing merits (latest available). For 2026, merits can shift ±2–4% depending on ECAT difficulty, number of applicants, and overall performance.
Key Factors Affecting 2026 Merits
- Stronger ECAT performance → Higher closing merits
- More applicants → Tougher competition
- Weaker overall pool → Merits can drop by 2–5%
UET Closing Aggregates 2025 (Main Campus – Lahore)
| Department | Approx. Closing Aggregate (2025) | Competition Level |
| Computer Science | 81% – 85% | Very High |
| Software Engineering | 79% – 84% | Very High |
| Electrical Engineering | 73% – 80% | High |
| Mechanical Engineering | 74% – 81% | High |
| Civil Engineering | 73% – 79% | Moderate to High |
| Architecture | 76% – 80% | Moderate to High |
| Chemical Engineering | 72% – 79% | Moderate |
| Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering | 65% – 72% | Moderate |
| Mining Engineering | 58% – 68% | Lower |
| Metallurgical Engineering | 58% – 66% | Lower |
How UET Merit Lists Work (2026)
UET releases multiple merit lists (usually 4+ rounds):
- 1st Merit List — Highest closing merits
- 2nd Merit List — Seats from students who opted for other universities
- 3rd & 4th Merit Lists — Further drop in required aggregate
- Final / Walk-in Admissions — Lowest merits
Good News:
It is very common to get admission in the 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th merit list. Many students upgrade or switch, causing seats to roll over.
Rankings and Accreditation
| Body | Standing | Category | Year |
| HEC Pakistan | W Category (Top Tier) | Engineering and Technology | 2024 |
| QS World Rankings | 601–800 | Engineering Subject Ranking | 2024 |

Within Pakistan, UET Lahore is the top engineering university by historical standing and HEC category. NUST Islamabad competes directly and in recent global rankings has matched or slightly exceeded UET’s position — that is an honest point worth knowing. Both hold W Category status from HEC.

International recognition
UET is accredited by PEC, which is a member of the Washington Accord — an agreement between countries that mutually recognise each other’s engineering qualifications. Member countries include the UK, Canada, Australia, and the USA. A UET graduate is eligible to apply for professional engineering registration in those countries, subject to their individual requirements. In practice, UET engineers work as licensed professionals in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the UK, Canada, and Australia without their degrees being questioned.
Campus Life and Hostel
The main campus is largely self-contained. Everything a student needs — labs, library, sports, medical care, food, banking — is within walking distance. That matters more than it sounds when you are in the middle of exam season.
Hostel
Separate hostels for male and female students. Male hostels offer shared rooms for two to four people across multiple blocks. The girls hostel has secure entry and guards on duty 24/7.
* Students from cities and those with better grades get priority when rooms are assigned. The hostel tries to be fair. It’s tough to get a room.
| Accommodation | Approx. Monthly Cost | Included |
| Male Hostel (shared room) | PKR 4,000 – 7,000 | Bed, locker, Wi-Fi |
| Male Hostel (semi-private) | PKR 6,000 – 10,000 | Two-person room, attached bath in select blocks |
| Female Hostel | PKR 5,000 – 9,000 | Room, 24-hour security |
| Dining (mess) | PKR 6,000 – 9,000 | Three meals per day |
Other facilities
- Central Library: Over 300,000 volumes plus access to international digital journals. Extended hours during exam seasons.
- Labs: Equipped labs across all departments, with ongoing investment through research grants.
- Health Centre: On-campus medical care for enrolled students, with referral for specialist cases.
- Sports: Cricket ground, football pitch, basketball and badminton courts, gymnasium.
- Student societies: Active technical, cultural, and social societies running events year-round.
- Career Development Centre: Handles internship placements, job fairs, and employer connections.
- Essentials on campus: ATMs, post office, mosque, and basic shops.
The academic workload at UET is really tough. In the year most students either develop good study habits or fall behind and it takes a long time to catch up. Students who do well usually join a society early on which connects them with other students who are serious about their studies. This helps them build a network of peers who take their work seriously. It also helps that they are surrounded by minded students who are passionate about learning.
What Graduates Do and Earn
UET Lahore graduates work across virtually every major engineering employer in Pakistan and in significant numbers across the Gulf, UK, and North America. The track record here is one of the strongest arguments for choosing UET over a private alternative.

Where graduates work
- Government and public sector: WAPDA, NESPAK, NHA, FWO, OGDCL, PARCO, PTCL, provincial development authorities
- Construction and infrastructure: Major real estate developers and international contractors on CPEC projects
- Technology sector: Systems Limited, NetSol Technologies, Arbisoft, TRG Pakistan, and hundreds of smaller software firms
- International: Engineering consultancies in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UK, Canada, and Australia actively recruit UET graduates
- Postgraduate study: A meaningful share of top graduates leave on funded MS and PhD scholarships to the US, UK, China, and Germany
Starting salaries
| Discipline | Starting Salary in Pakistan | Starting Salary Abroad |
| CS / Software Engineering | PKR 80,000 – 150,000/month | USD 2,500 – 4,500/month |
| Electrical Engineering | PKR 60,000 – 100,000/month | USD 2,000 – 3,800/month |
| Civil Engineering | PKR 50,000 – 90,000/month | USD 1,800 – 3,500/month |
| Mechanical Engineering | PKR 55,000 – 95,000/month | USD 2,000 – 3,800/month |
| Chemical Engineering | PKR 55,000 – 90,000/month | USD 1,800 – 3,400/month |
These are fresh graduate figures. Engineers with five to ten years of experience regularly earn multiples of these amounts. The total cost of a four-year government seat at UET rarely exceeds PKR 400,000. Measured against a 30-year career, the return on that investment is hard to match anywhere in Pakistan.
What is the fee of UET Lahore per semester in 2025?
On a government merit seat, expect roughly PKR 35,000 to PKR 45,000 per semester. Self-finance seats run PKR 80,000 to PKR 120,000 per semester. Neither figure includes hostel or dining — those are charged separately.
What aggregate do I need for UET Lahore?
It depends on the department and changes each year. CS typically closes around 80–85%. Electrical Engineering around 76–82%. Civil and Mechanical between 68 and 78%. Check the official merit lists at uet.edu.pk for current data — those numbers are the only reliable source.
Is UET Lahore a government university?
Yes. Established in 1921, funded by the Government of Punjab. That is why fees are far lower than comparable private engineering programs in Pakistan.
How do I check my UET Lahore result online?
Go to obe.uet.edu.pk. Log in with your student registration number and password, then open the Results section. Results are usually published two to four weeks after final exams.
Does UET Lahore offer scholarships?
Yes — HEC Need-Based, PEEF, Ehsaas Undergraduate, UET Merit, and departmental donor scholarships are all available. Need-based options can cover 100% of tuition. Apply in week one of your semester. Deadlines arrive before most students realise they have passed.
